Out with the Old, in with the New.

As the United States Army faces and ever changing battlefield and new arising threats, it was time to upgrade the equipment their combat soldier would carry.

Being America's choice sidearm since 1985, the Beretta M9 has become an unwieldy and cumbersome reminder that our equipment is outdated and in need of reform. During the Army's Modular Handgun System Competition, it was decided that SigSauer's P320 would become its successor for two primary reasons. Being half a pound lighter than the M9, the P320 provides a lighter and more stabilized firearm for close quarter scenarios that the Army finds themselves increasingly encountering. Second, is that the body of the firearm is modular, allowing for attachments to be added to increase its efficiency in the field.

While the phasing out of the Beretta will take some time, this decision will no doubt be a large upheaval in the Defense side of the stock market. Shareholders of SigSauer are rejoicing, as the news of having the United States military as its newest customer sent its stocks spiraling upwards. The introduction of this firearm to America will no doubt also see its nation's law enforcement looking into purchasing it as well, and even within the homeowner side as well.

Seeing as how the M9 was Beretta's main source of revenue, investors can only speculate if this decision will be a wake-up call for Beretta to join the home-defense side of the market that they have for so long been falling behind in. One could also speculate if they will begin to invest in a Centerfire Firearm System, as assault rifles have increasingly gained popularity in the civilian sector.
